CrossFit Games 2020: What to Expect

healthy tips for eyes

CrossFit Games 2021 will be taking place in a few weeks and many CrossFit Games participants are very excited. There will be women's competitions in addition to the regular men's and women's competitions. We have all heard about the women's competition, the Pegboard contest, the Cutting system, and Reebok's equipment, but do you know what to expect? Keep reading to find out! Don't forget the CrossFit news page to get the latest information about the competition.

Women's competition

The swim event was the start of the women's division at the 2021 Crossfit Games. Jonne Koski and Tia-Clair Toomey Orr won the first event. Koski was the overall winner after keeping her lead throughout the competition. Tall and Eramoo Connell were second and third, each. It was the first Games for women, and the women's side hoped to complete the podium.

The field is full of top-level athletes in the women's competition. The field features nine athletes, including a 19 year-old Australian powerhouse who won this competition last year. Kara Saunders (Australian athlete) finished second in Australia. She was also eleventh worldwide for 2020. Andrea Nisler is another rising star. She competed in the team category in 2018 and placed third in the United States, and 15th overall in 2020. In addition to these athletes, the Women's competition will also feature a newcomer to the sport - Icelandan competitor Sara Sigmundsdottir, who won the first place medal in the World Crossfit Games earlier this year.

Pegboard contest

Pegboard contest at Crossfit Games 2121 was a new concept. It was also added to the Games' Olympic summer program. Toomey-Orr set the record for most wins in a single Games event with 30. Sager won Event 11 men's and received his third Games win. Although there were many ties, Toomey-Orr's dominance wasn't enough to prevent him from winning the contest.

CrossFit Games training involves focusing on ten basic physical fitness skills: endurance, strength flexibility power speed and agility. Pegboard is a contest that tests competitor's grip strength as well as coordination. Two wooden pegs are held between the hands of each competitor to gauge their grip strength. After completing the Pegboard, the competition was intense and athletes felt a sense of accomplishment.

Cutting system

CrossFit Games will again use a cutting method for individual competition. This is not as extreme as past Games cuts, but it is very different this year. The competition consists of 15 individual events, so a first cut to 30 athletes is likely after the seventh or eighth event. CrossFit's decision on how to adjust the points distributed after cuts remains a question. The scoring table used during the 2019 games was almost identical to that used in 2021. It is likely that this will continue.

The CrossFit Games' largest ever field, consisting of 236 athletes this year, is the largest ever. The six first events lead to major cuts. The field is then reduced to 75 athletes. The top 30 finishers compete in a sprint pairt to determine who is the top ten. The top 20 athletes then compete in six more events. Veteran Games participants criticized Castro's system, claiming that the cuts were too drastic.

Equipment from Reebok

Reebok announced new CrossFit Games footwear, clothing and other equipment. The new shoes are the Nano X1. They are made to meet multiple fitness needs. Reebok claims this shoe is "the shoe that will fit all your fitness needs," but it's more like a regular training shoe. DuPont's Kevlar fabric is used for the upper, which promotes breathability and durability. The shoes' responsiveness is enhanced thanks to the RopePro tech and the firm midsole.

CrossFit's sponsorship contract with Reebok is ending at the end of 2020. There will not be a title sponsor for the Games. Reebok has been sponsoring the Games for over a decade and now it is clear that its involvement will be declining. Reebok will not fund the Games' prize pool, but it will still make all the equipment and apparel worn by athletes, even the Reebok gear. The company won't refer to itself as "Reebok crossfit games" anymore.

What is the difference in Aerobic Fitness and Anaerobic Fitness

Anaerobic fitness describes the body's ability not to use oxygen to perform intense physical tasks. Anaerobic pathways provide sufficient energy for high-intensity exercise. Anaerobic pathways can include glycolysis, creatinephosphate, the Phosphagen, and lactic acids.

Cardio fitness is, in contrast to aerobic fitness, the practice of sustaining low-intensity exercise. Aerobic exercise is a form of aerobic exercise in which oxygen is the primary fuel source for the cells. In other words: The aerobic pathway gives more energy than that of the anaerobic.

You need to build up your aerobic capability if you plan on running a marathon. If you are only focusing on increasing your anaerobic capabilities, you won't finish the race.

Aerobic fitness may also be known as cardiovascular fitness. The most common methods for assessing cardiovascular fitness include VO2 max testing or step tests.

VO2 Max Testing

VO2 max refers to the maximum amount of oxygen (O2) used by the body during exercise. This test measures the amount of O2 the body can utilize while exercising.

This test measures cardiovascular fitness in a way that is most accurate. This test requires expensive equipment, and highly qualified professionals to administer.

Step Tests

Step tests are a simple but effective way to measure cardiovascular fitness. These tests require you to walk or run on a track or treadmill for a set amount of time, depending on your weight and age.

These tests are inexpensive, easy to conduct, and can be done almost anywhere. You can for instance walk on a treadmill 2 minutes, then stop for 1 minute. You should maintain a constant heart rate throughout the session.

This method is known as the "Bruce Protocol". Bruce, himself a runner developed this protocol when he realized his heart rate didn't rise when he ran long distances.
